DJ Muggs does his best Skrillex impression. Yawn. A couple of years behind the curve at the very least. Then again, the Cypress Hill DJ more or less wrote off UK MCs outright a decade ago and only now, nine years after Boy In Da Corner dropped, he gets Dizzee on a song. Visionary.

You'd be forgiven for thinking that after Maths & English Dizzee Rascal gave up trying altogether. But after collaborating with Calvin Harris and Shakira, then cementing his position as a pop rapper with half a heart and sterling signs for eyeballs, it seems like the fuse got lit once again (check his verse on Bluku Bluku! for evidence).

Whether any proceeding album follows suit remains to be seen, but this mixtape is a flagrant move back to basics alongside his Dirtee Stank brethren.

Dizzee Rascal To Pen Memoirs

"Dizzee Rascal has announced plans to publish his first official memoir, provisionally titled The Dizzee Rascal Story.

The 24-year-old rapper will co-write his life story with music journalist Ben Thompson later this year. The memoir will be published by the company Dirtee Books, a joint venture with Dizzee's Dirtee Stank label and publishers Canongate.

The illustrated hardback is due in October and the paperback will follow in summer 2011. Plus, publisher Canongate plans to focus on marketing digital editions of the book.

Dizzee Rascal, real name Dylan Mills, was born in Bow, east London, in 1985. He started making music in his teens and released his Mercury prize-winning debut album, Boy In Da Corner, when he was 17. His fourth album, Tongue N' Cheek, was released last year and is the rapper's greatest commercial success to date. His memoir promises to offer an 'intimate insight' into his life so far, including his turbulent adolescence and his near-fatal stabbing in 2003."

A lot of people were making a lot of noise about this performance last night. I've been fortunate enough to see him live before alongside Newham Generals and he was undoubtedly very good.

I was looking at the playlist for the set and realised how far Dizzee's come...

I hope I'm not as disappointed as I'm expecting to be when I end up hearing Tongue N Cheek.

Where are you Rasket?

What happened, Dylan? You came along and strongarmed the show. Consistently. There were some hairy moments like when you hooked up with Lily on the last album. Other than that, though, everything was great. Then there was Dance Wiv Me. Then Bonkers (which I can actually live with). Now this:

I hope the rest of Tongue N Cheek goes harder than stale baguettes. There’s got to be some Rasket on there somewhere...
