Diggin In The Crates: 1Xtra, HHC & DJ Excalibah Present - Britannia Rules The Airwaves

From August 2002, anyone with a digital radio (i.e. no-one) was lucky enough to be able to tune into the newly launched 1Xtra radio station. To celebrate the fact, HHC served up this CD for its readers to get acquainted with the whipper snapper Excalibah and his Tales From The Legend UK hip hop show.

Nearly eight years later and some bloke rooted it out and popped it on a blog.

Diggin In The Crates: HHC Cover CD - Various UK Artists

This one isn't so much diggin in the dusty crates, more flicking through a pretty dry CD wallet. I unearthed this free collection which came with a copy of HHC circa 2000 and mostly features UK artists.

Firstly, the track names are unknown (to me at least) and I can't pin down a couple of the artists by ear. I do know the rest features Out Da Ville, Scorzayzee, The Planets, Moorish Delta 7, 57th Dynasty, and Lethal and Destruction. It's been chopped down a little to keep it strictly UK and... well... enjoy.

I mentioned waaaaayyy back that I was gonna dig in the crates to serve up some UK hip hop from yesteryear. Now I can finally deliver on that promise.

Obviously this post theme is exhaustible, so I’m not going to throw it all out there at once. Also, if anything’s still obtainable from official outlets I won’t give it up.

I could only see this 1998 release available from private sellers and thought the track was apt given the rant below. This is the best Mud Fam release that I’ve ever heard and I’ll give you the rest at some point. For now, enjoy.

Diggin' in my crates

Anyone who knows me can tell you that I draw things out. I moved into my current place six months ago and only just bought proper bed sheets today for the mattress that's on my floor. I know. And these are still sitting in the corner of my dusty room, gathering...dust.

Everyone seems to be on Serato now and I need to hook myself up as I've got gigs and gigs of mp3s. I've also got a fair bit of UK hip hop on vinyl and other less classic, but also dated, formats. I'm going to up some, as and when I want to share, for some trips down memory lane. Watch this space...
